Recommended reading books for elementary, middle & high school students
Kathryn Foxfield is a British author of young adult and middle-grade fiction, known for her dark thrillers and horror stories. Before turning to fiction, she worked as a microbiologist and authored a popular science book about tuberculosis. Her background in science influences her writing, particularly in exploring themes of fear and human behavior.
Foxfield’s debut novel, Good Girls Die First, was published by Scholastic UK in 2020. The story follows sixteen-year-old Ava, who is lured to a derelict carnival by blackmail and finds herself among ten teenagers with dark secrets. The novel has been recognized for its suspenseful narrative and has been translated into multiple languages.
Her subsequent works include It’s Behind You (2021), Tag, You’re Dead (2022), and Getting Away with Murder (2024). These novels continue to explore themes of survival, identity, and the supernatural, often set against the backdrop of contemporary teenage experiences.
In addition to her novels, Foxfield contributed a story to the anthology A Taste of Darkness: 13 Spooky Stories to Savour, published in 2023. She is represented by Chloe Seager at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency.
Foxfield’s latest novel, Getting Away with Murder, was released in the United States in December 2024.
