Kara LaReau biography

Kara LaReau is an American author known for her work in children’s literature. She has written picture books, chapter books, and middle grade novels. LaReau earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as an editor at Candlewick Press and Scholastic.

LaReau is the author of the The Unintentional Adventures of the Bland Sisters trilogy, which includes The Jolly Regina, The Uncanny Express, and The Flight of the Bluebird, published by Amulet Books. She also wrote the Infamous Ratsos series, illustrated by Matt Myers and published by Candlewick Press. The first book in this series, The Infamous Ratsos, was named a 2017 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book.

In addition to her series, LaReau has authored several picture books, such as No Slurping, No Burping! and Ugly Fish. Her books often feature humor and themes of family and friendship. LaReau continues to write for young readers, with her most recent work including Baby Clown, illustrated by Matthew Cordell and published by Candlewick Press in 2020.
