Judd Winick is an American cartoonist, comic book writer, and television producer. He is known for his work in both graphic novels and mainstream comics, as well as for his appearances on the reality television series The Real World: San Francisco in 1994. Winick has written for major comic publishers, including DC Comics and Marvel Comics, contributing to titles such as Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Batman, and Exiles.
Winick is the creator of the Hilo graphic novel series for children, published by Random House. The series follows the adventures of a boy named Hilo and his friends, and is aimed at middle-grade readers. The first book in the series, Hilo: The Boy Who Crashed to Earth, was published in 2015. Subsequent titles in the series include Hilo: Saving the Whole Wide World, Hilo: The Great Big Boom, and others.
In addition to his work in comics and graphic novels, Winick has written for animated television, including episodes of The Life and Times of Juniper Lee for Cartoon Network. He is also the author of the graphic novel Pedro and Me, which recounts his friendship with AIDS educator Pedro Zamora, his roommate on The Real World: San Francisco. Pedro and Me received several honors, including a nomination for the Eisner Award in 2001.
