Joe Flood biography

Joe Flood is a comic book author and illustrator whose work spans children’s nonfiction and original graphic novels. His credits include series and titles published or distributed by major houses and comics imprints in the United States.

For First Second’s educational line, Flood illustrated Science Comics: Dinosaurs – Fossils and Feathers (written by MK Reed, 2016) and wrote and illustrated Science Comics: Sharks – Nature’s Perfect Hunter (2018) and Science Comics: Birds of Prey – Terrifying Talons (2022). These middle-grade graphic nonfiction books introduce scientific topics through sequential art and were published by Macmillan’s children’s group.

Flood is the creator of the workplace comedy series Cellies (Lion Forge). His broader bibliography includes illustrating Stan Nicholls’s graphic novel Orcs: Forged for War (2011), Macon Blair’s Long Road to Liquor City (Oni Press, 2019), and the baseball comedy Bush Leaguers (written by Bob McKeon and Sam Fletcher; Scout Comics, 2023). Publisher listings also credit him on comics tie-ins such as Pirates of the Caribbean.

Across these projects, Flood works as both writer-artist and collaborating illustrator, producing graphic books for classrooms, libraries, and general readers.
