Jason Reynolds biography

Jason Reynolds writes books for young people, including When I Was the Greatest, The Boy in the Black Suit, Stamped, As Brave as You, For Every One, Look Both Ways, Stuntboy, in the Meantime, Stuntboy, In-Between Time, Miles Morales Suspended and Long Way Down. His Track series includes Ghost, Patina, Sunny, Lu and Coach. All American Boys was co-written with Brendan Kiely, while Ain’t Burned All the Bright and My Name Is Jason. Mine Too. were co-written with Jason Griffin.

Long Way Down was published by Atheneum/Caitlyn Dlouhy Books on 24 October 2017. The book received a Newbery Honor, a Printz Honor and a Coretta Scott King Honor. Ain’t Burned All the Bright received a Caldecott Honor.

Reynolds was the 2020–2022 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. He was inaugurated as the seventh National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature on 16 January 2020, and his platform was called “Grab the Mic: Tell Your Story”. In 2021, his term was extended for a third year, the first such extension in the programme’s history.

His awards and honours include a MacArthur Genius Grant, a 2024 MacArthur Fellowship, a Carnegie Medal, a Kirkus Award, two Walter Dean Myers Awards, an NAACP Image Award, an Odyssey Award, a Coretta Scott King Author Award, the Margaret A. Edwards Award, and multiple Coretta Scott King honours. Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks was a 2019 National Book Award finalist.
