Jason Patterson biography

Jason Patterson is a graphic novelist, illustrator, and animator who creates children’s books and comics with longtime collaborator Dan Abdo. The pair met in high school, continued making comics through art school, and have worked together professionally across publishing, animation, and commercial projects. Both studied at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Patterson co-authors the early-reader graphic novel series Blue, Barry & Pancakes (First Second/Macmillan), which launched in 2021 and has grown into multiple volumes featuring three best-friend characters and episodic, adventure-driven stories for emerging readers.

He is also the co-creator, with Abdo, of the middle-grade graphic novel series Barb the Last Berzerker (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers). The series begins with Barb the Last Berzerker and continues in sequels including Barb and the Ghost Blade and Barb and the Battle for Bailiwick, with entries aimed at ages 8–12 (grades 3–7).

Beyond books, Patterson and Abdo—credited jointly as “Dan & Jason”—have developed animated campaigns, network TV and web series, and original properties with major studios. Their creative work has included projects set up at Twentieth Century Fox, Disney, and Nickelodeon, as well as a feature in development through Paramount Pictures. Their credits span print and digital platforms, including Nickelodeon Comics and contributions to The New Yorker.
