Harriet Muncaster biography

Harriet Muncaster is a British author and illustrator renowned for creating the internationally bestselling Isadora Moon series, which blends elements of fairy and vampire lore to explore themes of individuality and belonging. Born in 1988 in Saudi Arabia, she relocated to England at the age of one-and-a-half and grew up in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

Muncaster pursued her passion for art by studying Illustration at Norwich University College of the Arts, followed by a Master’s degree in Children’s Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. Her final project at Anglia Ruskin was highly commended for the Macmillan Prize, highlighting her emerging talent in the field.

Her debut picture book, I Am a Witch’s Cat, was published in 2014 by HarperCollins and received the 2016 Blue Hen Book Award from the Delaware Library Association. This success paved the way for her to develop the Isadora Moon series, first published by Oxford University Press in 2016. The series has since expanded to over 20 titles, translated into more than 30 languages, and adapted into a 52-episode animated television series for Sky Kids.

Building on the popularity of Isadora Moon, Muncaster created spin-off series including Mirabelle, focusing on Isadora’s witch cousin, and Emerald, featuring a mermaid friend. She also authored the Victoria Stitch trilogy, a middle-grade fantasy series, and is set to launch a new series, The Diary of Wiska Wildflower, in October 2025.

Muncaster’s distinctive illustration style and imaginative storytelling have made her a prominent figure in children’s literature, with her works widely used in educational settings to engage young readers through themes of magic, identity, and self-acceptance.
