George Takei biography

George Takei is an American actor, author, and activist, widely recognized for his work in television, literature, and advocacy. He is best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in the original Star Trek television series, which aired from 1966 to 1969. Takei has also appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout his career.

In addition to his acting, Takei is an accomplished author. He has written several books, including his memoir To the Stars: The Autobiography of George Takei, Star Trek’s Mr. Sulu, published in 1994. Takei is also the author of the graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy, co-written with Justin Eisinger and Steven Scott, and illustrated by Harmony Becker. This work, published in 2019, recounts his childhood experiences in Japanese American internment camps during World War II.

Takei is known for his advocacy on behalf of LGBTQ+ rights and for raising awareness about the internment of Japanese Americans. He has received several honors for his activism and contributions to the arts, including being awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, by the Japanese government in 2004.

In 2019, Takei’s graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy was published by Top Shelf Productions.
