Florence Sakade was an American editor, author, and translator known for her contributions to English-language children’s books about Japan. She worked extensively with Tuttle Publishing, producing and editing a range of books that introduced Japanese folktales, culture, and language to young readers. Sakade edited and translated several collections of Japanese stories, including Japanese Children’s Favorite Stories and More Japanese Children’s Favorite Stories. Her work often focused on making traditional Japanese tales accessible to English-speaking audiences, and she collaborated with various illustrators to bring these stories to life. Among her notable publications is Little One-Inch & Other Japanese Children’s Favorite Stories, first published by Tuttle in 1958.
