Eric A. Kimmel is an American author known for his contributions to children’s literature, particularly in the genres of folktales and picture books. He earned a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois and has worked as a professor of education. Kimmel has written over 100 books for children, many of which draw on Jewish folklore and traditions.
Among his notable works are Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins, illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman, and Anansi and the Moss-Covered Rock, illustrated by Janet Stevens. His books often feature retellings of classic tales from various cultures, making them popular in educational settings. Kimmel’s writing has received recognition from several organizations, including the Association of Jewish Libraries and the National Council for the Social Studies.
Eric A. Kimmel’s Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins was named a Caldecott Honor Book in 1990.
