Emily Dickinson was an American poet whose work is widely recognized for its innovative style and exploration of themes such as nature, death, and immortality. She was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, and spent most of her life in her family home. Dickinson wrote nearly 1,800 poems, though only a small number were published during her lifetime, often anonymously and sometimes altered by editors.
Dickinson’s poetry is noted for its unconventional punctuation, slant rhyme, and concise language. Her poems frequently reflect her keen observations of the natural world and her introspective approach to life’s mysteries. After her death, Dickinson’s manuscripts were discovered by her family, leading to the posthumous publication of her work.
The first collection of her poetry, Poems by Emily Dickinson, was published in 1890. This publication marked the beginning of Dickinson’s recognition as a major American poet.
