Douglas Florian is an American poet, author, and illustrator known for his contributions to children’s literature. He has written and illustrated numerous poetry collections and picture books, often focusing on nature, animals, and science themes. Florian’s distinctive style combines playful verse with watercolor and collage illustrations.

Florian began his career as an artist and cartoonist, contributing to publications such as The New Yorker and Mad magazine. He later transitioned to children’s books, publishing both as an author-illustrator and as an illustrator for other writers. His poetry collections include Insectlopedia, Mammalabilia, Dinothesaurus, and Comets, Stars, the Moon, and Mars: Space Poems and Paintings.
