Dean Hale biography

Dean Hale is an American author known for his collaborative work in children’s literature, particularly with his wife, Shannon Hale. Together, they have co-authored several books, including the Princess in Black series, which features a princess who secretly fights monsters. The series is illustrated by LeUyen Pham and is published by Candlewick Press.

Dean Hale has also co-written graphic novels such as Rapunzel’s Revenge and Calamity Jack, both illustrated by Nathan Hale and published by Bloomsbury. These works reimagine classic fairy tales with adventurous twists and have been recognized for their engaging storytelling and visual style.

In addition to his collaborative projects, Dean Hale has written solo works, including the picture book Scapegoat: The Story of a Goat Named Oat and a Chewed-Up Coat, illustrated by Michael Slack and published by Bloomsbury in 2017. He has contributed to other series and anthologies as well.

Dean Hale’s books have been featured in various reading programs and have received positive attention from educators and librarians. In 2014, the first book in the Princess in Black series was published by Candlewick Press.
