Daniel José Older is an American author known for his work in young adult and adult fiction, as well as for his contributions to the fantasy and science fiction genres. He is the author of the Shadowshaper Cypher series, which began with Shadowshaper published by Arthur A. Levine Books in 2015. The series has been recognized for its urban fantasy elements and its focus on Afro-Latinx characters and culture.

Older has also written the Bone Street Rumba series, starting with Half-Resurrection Blues published by Roc in 2015. His work often explores themes of identity, community, and social justice, and he has been noted for his advocacy for diversity in publishing.
