Cassandra Clare biography

Cassandra Clare is an American author best known for her young adult fantasy series, The Mortal Instruments. Born Judith Rumelt, she began her writing career with fan fiction before publishing her debut novel, City of Bones, in 2007 with Margaret K. McElderry Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The book is the first in The Mortal Instruments series, which follows the adventures of Clary Fray in a world of Shadowhunters, demons, and supernatural intrigue.

Clare expanded the Shadowhunter universe with additional series, including The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, and The Last Hours. Her works often explore themes of identity, family, and the complexities of good and evil. Clare’s books have been published in multiple languages and have inspired adaptations in other media.

In addition to her novels, Clare has contributed to anthologies and collaborated with other authors on related works, such as The Bane Chronicles and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy. Her writing has been recognized with several awards, including the 2010 Georgia Peach Book Award for Teen Readers for City of Glass.

In 2021, Clare published Chain of Iron, the second book in The Last Hours trilogy.
