Brendan Wenzel is an American author and illustrator celebrated for his contributions to children’s literature. His works often explore themes of perspective, interconnectedness, and the natural world, characterized by vibrant illustrations and thoughtful narratives.

Wenzel’s debut as both author and illustrator came with the picture book They All Saw a Cat (2016), which received a Caldecott Honor and became a New York Times bestseller. The book examines how different animals perceive the same cat, emphasizing the subjectivity of experience. He continued to explore similar themes in subsequent works such as A Stone Sat Still (2019), Hello Hello (2018), and Inside Cat (2021).

In addition to his authorial projects, Wenzel has illustrated books for other writers, including Some Bugs and Some Pets by Angela DiTerlizzi. His illustrations are known for their dynamic use of mixed media and their focus on animal subjects.
