Betsy Lewin biography

Betsy Lewin is an American illustrator and author known for her work in children’s literature. She has illustrated numerous picture books, often collaborating with her husband, Ted Lewin. Betsy Lewin is recognized for her distinctive, energetic watercolor illustrations that bring humor and warmth to her stories.

Lewin studied at the Pratt Institute, where she focused on illustration. Early in her career, she worked as a greeting card designer before moving into children’s books. Over the years, she has illustrated books for a variety of authors, as well as writing and illustrating her own titles.

One of her most notable works is Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, written by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Lewin. This book received a Caldecott Honor in 2001. Betsy Lewin’s illustrations have been featured in many other acclaimed books, including Duck for President and Giggle, Giggle, Quack, both also written by Doreen Cronin.

In addition to her collaborations, Lewin has authored and illustrated her own books, such as Chubbo’s Pool and What’s the Matter, Habibi? Her work has been recognized for its lively style and appeal to young readers.

Betsy Lewin received a Caldecott Honor for Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type in 2001.
