Beth Krommes is an American illustrator known for her work in children’s picture books. She studied art at Syracuse University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. Krommes is recognized for her distinctive scratchboard illustration technique, which combines detailed line work with rich textures.
Krommes has illustrated several notable picture books, collaborating with various authors. Her illustrations for The House in the Night, written by Susan Marie Swanson, received the Caldecott Medal in 2009. Other books she has illustrated include Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature by Joyce Sidman and Butterfly Eyes and Other Secrets of the Meadow by Joyce Sidman.
Her work has been featured in exhibitions and has received recognition for its contribution to children’s literature. In 2009, Krommes was awarded the Caldecott Medal for her illustrations in The House in the Night.
