Ben Oliver is a Scottish author known for his young adult dystopian fiction. He gained recognition with his debut novel, The Loop, the first installment of a trilogy that includes The Block and The Arc. The series explores themes of artificial intelligence, surveillance, and societal control, set within a futuristic death row prison for teenagers.
Oliver began writing at a young age and pursued English studies at the University of Stirling. His first short story was published when he was eighteen, and he has since contributed to various literary magazines and anthologies. The Loop was published in 2020 and has been translated into multiple languages. The television rights for the series have been optioned by producer Louise Sutton, known for her work on Black Mirror episodes “Metalhead” and “USS Callister”.
In 2024, Oliver released The Kill Factor, a standalone novel that delves into the intersections of social media, reality television, and virtual currency. His works are characterized by their fast-paced narratives and exploration of contemporary issues through speculative fiction.
