Ben Clanton biography

Ben Clanton is an American author and illustrator recognized for his contributions to children’s literature, particularly in the realm of early graphic novels and picture books. He is the creator of the Narwhal and Jelly series, which has achieved New York Times bestseller status and is noted for its humor and engaging storytelling. The series includes titles such as Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea!, Super Narwhal and Jelly Jolt, and Peanut Butter and Jelly.

Clanton’s portfolio also encompasses picture books like Mo’s Mustache, Vote for Me!, It Came in the Mail, Something Extraordinary, and Rex Wrecks It!. In addition, he has developed the Rot series, featuring a mutant potato protagonist, and the Tater Tales series, which debuted with The Greatest in the World! in 2022. Collaborating with Andy Chou Musser, Clanton co-created the Ploof series, beginning with Ploof in 2023.

Clanton pursued studies in anthropology and politics at Willamette University. His work is characterized by a blend of whimsical illustrations and narratives that resonate with young readers. His books are published by various publishers, including Tundra Books and Simon & Schuster.
