Azul López biography

Azul López is a Mexican author and illustrator of picture books for children and young adults. Her work has been published internationally, including editions in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Italy, France, Spain, South Korea, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Greece, and Sweden.

In 2017, López won a National Poster Contest. Her illustration work has also been selected for the IX Ibero-American Illustration Catalog.

In 2022, López won the International Award for Illustration from the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and Fundación SM. As part of the award, her illustrations were featured in a solo exhibition connected to her picturebook Volver a mirar. She has also received the Green Island Prize from the Nami Island International Picture Book Illustration Concours in South Korea.

In the United States, López illustrated Giant on the Shore (written by Alfonso Ochoa and translated by Shook), published by Transit Children’s Editions on May 14, 2024. Transit Children’s Editions also published López’s Look Up, translated by Shook, on November 18, 2025.
