Anjan Sarkar is a British illustrator whose work spans picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels for children and teens. He studied Illustration & Animation at Manchester Metropolitan University and has worked professionally in children’s publishing, animation, and advertising. Since focusing on children’s books in 2015, he has created artwork for more than thirty titles across trade and educational lists.
Sarkar is the artist for the graphic novel adaptations of Stuart Gibbs’s middle-grade series: Spy School: The Graphic Novel (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2022), Spy Camp: The Graphic Novel (2023), and Evil Spy School: The Graphic Novel (2024). His picture-book credits include Pamela Ehrenberg’s Queen of the Hanukkah Dosas (Farrar, Straus and Giroux/Macmillan, 2017). For younger readers he illustrates A. I. Newton’s Little Olympians chapter-book series (Little Bee Books, 2021–2022). His black-and-white interior work appears in Tom Nicoll’s videogame-themed Level Up! series (Stripes/Little Tiger, 2019–2020), and he illustrated Sophie Deen’s STEM-centric adventure Agent Asha: Mission Shark Bytes (Walker Books, 2020).
Across formats, Sarkar’s portfolio emphasizes clear visual storytelling for developing readers—balancing character expression, action, and humor to support comprehension and pacing in classrooms and libraries.
