Alex T. Smith is a British author and illustrator known for his work in children’s literature. He studied illustration at Coventry University. Smith is recognized for creating the Claude series, which follows the adventures of a small, plump dog named Claude and his best friend, Sir Bobblysock. The first book in the series, Claude in the City, was published in 2011 by Hodder Children’s Books. The Claude books have been selected for the Richard and Judy Children’s Book Club and have been adapted into an animated television series.
In addition to the Claude series, Smith has written and illustrated other children’s books, including Mr Penguin and the Lost Treasure and Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion. His illustrations are characterized by their humor and distinctive style. Smith has also illustrated books for other authors, such as Ella by Alex T. Smith and Egg by Jonathan Meres.
Smith’s work has received recognition in the children’s publishing industry. Claude in the City was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2012.
