Adam Gidwitz is an American author known for his works in children’s literature. He is the writer of the A Tale Dark & Grimm series, which reimagines classic fairy tales with a dark and humorous twist. The first book in the series, A Tale Dark & Grimm, was published by Dutton Children’s Books in 2010. The series continued with In a Glass Grimmly (2012) and The Grimm Conclusion (2013).
Gidwitz has also written The Inquisitor’s Tale: Or, The Three Magical Children and Their Holy Dog, published by Dutton Books for Young Readers in 2016. This novel received a Newbery Honor in 2017. The book is set in medieval France and follows three children and a dog as they embark on a journey filled with adventure and moral questions.
In addition to his novels, Gidwitz is the author of the The Unicorn Rescue Society series, which began with The Creature of the Pines in 2018. The series features a group of children who protect mythical creatures around the world. Gidwitz has collaborated with other authors on later books in the series.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Gidwitz worked as a teacher. His background in education has influenced his approach to storytelling and his engagement with young readers. Gidwitz’s books are noted for their blend of humor, adventure, and exploration of complex themes.
